(Notes : When his son George was married in Godstone, Surrey, his occupation was given as a labourer
on the railway. The 1861 census for Alderney lists the family on folio No RG/9 4374 Page 14. There is no
trace of the family on the Alderney 1851 or 1871 census. William must have arrived in Alderney between
1851 and 1854 when his daughter Elizabeth was born. It is possible that he married Mary Ann Gillam
Rowe on Alderney. The 1861 census shows that his father in law, Thomas Rowe (a widower) age 50
and his sister in law Charlotte age 14 (both born in England) were living in the Stansbury home.
At the time of the 1881 census, after the death of his wife in 1878 William was living with his sons,
Robert and Richard, in lodgings in Oxted Surrey and working as a railway labourer. )
